Deputy Director

Overview:

The Ecology Center Deputy Director is responsible for developing and maintaining highly efficient administrative, personnel, facilities, and financial infrastructure that enables effective organizational management. The Deputy Director is part of the Senior Management Team and serves as the organization’s senior manager in the absence of the Executive Director. The Deputy Director supervises the financial and administrative staff located at the recycling facility, and works with the Program Director on administrative responsibilities at the San Pablo Avenue facility. The Deputy Director works closely with the Personnel and Finance Committees of the Board and under the general oversight of the Executive Director.

The Ecology Center:

The Ecology Center is a forty-year-old, grassroots, environmental service organization. The Ecology Center focuses on what local residents can do, rather than on the overwhelming problems we face. The Ecology Center facilitates the development of new efforts, further develops existing successful endeavors, and institutionalizes mature programs. The Ecology Center is focused on the five major areas of urban environmental impact: Waste, Water, Energy, Transportation, and Food. We are primarily funded by income generation, and believe strongly in self-sufficiency. Having said that, we seek support from businesses, government, foundations, and local donors to help launch new efforts, and to support those programs do not have institutional or enterprise sources of income.

The Ecology Center provides information, products, and direct services through our Berkeley's Residential Curbside Recycling Program, three Berkeley Farmers' Markets, Farm Fresh Choice food justice program, Terrain Magazine, Ecology Center Store and Information Services, our EcoHouse demonstration site, and by providing administrative support to fiscally-sponsored projects.
