Climate Action Coordinator

(Temporary, part-time)

Overview

The Climate Action Coordinator will expand the Ecology Center’s climate change educational activities and integrate our existing programs with other carbon-reduction projects, such as the City of Berkeley’s Measure G efforts and the UC Climate Action Plan.

The Ecology Center

For nearly 40 years, the Ecology Center has been helping residents, agencies, organizations, and businesses reduce their environmental impacts. The Ecology Center provides information, products, and direct services through our Berkeley Residential Curbside Recycling Program, three Berkeley Farmers' Markets, Farm Fresh Choice food justice program, Terrain Magazine, Ecology Center Store and Information Services, and our EcoHouse demonstration site.

Key responsibilities

  • Recruit participants and facilitate Low Carbon Diet groups
  • Train and develop support systems for Low Carbon Diet facilitators
  • Develop an EcoHouse Low Carbon Diet tour curriculum and host Sunday tours
  • Develop educational materials for climate action classes and EcoHouse tours
  • Field referral and service requests from Low Carbon Diet participants
  • Evaluate and document the efforts and results of our climate action activities
  • Develop content for Ecology Center website and local climate change action website
  • Write and publish a Low Carbon Diet blog
  • Organize climate-oriented events and classes at Ecology Center and EcoHouse

Requirements

Proactive worker who has excellent interpersonal and communication skills, experience facilitating groups, presentation skills, excellent writing skills, experience working in a collaborative community setting, “can do” attitude, and climate change knowledge.

This position will end February 28, 2008 but may be extended dependent upon funding. The position is 20 hours per week, and includes benefits.
