| Talk: Facing Scarcity: The Water Crisis in California |
Water is arguably California's most precious resource. Our supply is renewable but highly variable. Our demand outstrips supply such that we cannot meet the competing needs of households, farms and industry while maintaining a healthy ecosystem. We also face serious environmental and economic tradeoffs as we look to meet future water needs in our rapidly growing state. At the February Café Scientifique, Stanford Professor Richard Luthy will host a wide ranging discussion on the various facets of California's water crisis, including: Potential solutions; Supply sources and constraints; Allocation choices (farmers vs. cities vs. the environment); Water pollution, remediation and reclamation. Doors open at 5:15pm. Doors will be closed when capacity is reached. Meet in the Dining Room in the International Building.
