Introduction to Natural Building, a 2-Part Lecture Series

Join us for 2 evenings on natural building. Part 1 on July 22: Natural Building Around the World. What is natural building and where does it come from? This talk/slideshow will take you on a tour of traditional, natural building methods around the world. Bring your tea mug and be prepared for a visual romp through the myriad ways that people have utilized local materials to create lovely human habitat. Part 2 on August 5: Natural Building Now, Reinventing the Wheel. What happens when industrial cultures, like our own, begin to take interest in biodegradeable and traditional building methods? This talk/slideshow will address how natural building was reintroduced into the industrial world, and what is happening with it now. We will talk about how the practice of natural building is affecting our culture, and how our interest in traditional methods is affecting the cultures that are the sources of those methods. We will also look at examples of "modern" natural building and touch on the current context for codes and regulation of natural construction. This series is offered by Sasha Rabin and Massey Burke of Vertical Clay Construction. For more information visit www.verticalclay.com. Sasha and Massey have been practicing and teaching natural building in the Bay Area and northern California since 2004. Please specify when registering if ASL interpretation is requested, (at least 10 working days in advance).
