| Film & Talk: "EARTH DAYS" |
EARTH DAYS looks back to the dawn of the modern environmental movemen -- from its post-war rustlings in the 1950s and the 1962 publication of Rachel Carson's Silent Spring, to the first wildly successful Earth Day celebration in 1970, and the subsequent firestorm of political action. In personal testimony, the era's pioneers -- among them Whole Earth Catalog founder Stewart Brand, Population Bomb author Paul Ehrlich, Apollo Nine astronaut Rusty Schweickart, and renewable energy pioneer Hunter Lovins -- reveal what originally motivated them to act, the political and social changes that have taken place over the years, and the ways in which they are moving forward now to forge positive change. Berkeley's Ecology Center was incorporated on that very first Earth Day in 1970 and continues to pursue our goals, 40 years later! Ecology Center Executive Director Martin Bourque will be on hand to give a short presentation after the film, and answer questions about the Ecology Center's role in the movement.
